What is Music Parent's Association?

The Music Parents Association is an organization that was formed in the late 1990's in Swimming River School by a music teacher and parents who had an interest in supporting the children in the music programs.  We have encouraged children through the years by offering positive reinforcement, opportunities to perform and showcase their talents and to celebrate the successes of their musical endeavors. We are determined to help each child recognize their abilities in music and express these extraordinary talents by reaching their full potential within these programs.

Music has been proven to stimulate parts of our brain that sharpen our senses, improve our creative abilities, develop and heighten our language skills, enhance our emotional, spiritual and physical well being, and even elevate our educational study skills.

Did you know:  Music helped Thomas Jefferson write the Declaration of Independence. He would use the soothing sound of his violin to search for just the right wording.  Albert Einstein gives credit to music when his mother introduced him to the violin when his grades were failing and the school deemed him "too stupid" to continue his education.

Financial:

The MPA is a non-profit organization that supports the children in the music programs in Mahala F. Atchison, Swimming River, and Tinton Falls Middle Schools through fundraising.  We aid children who cannot afford to participate in the programs.  We provide funding for:  music assemblies, concert T-shirts, awards, and many other events for the music students. In addition, the association arranges for parent volunteers to help with the planning and execution of these events.

Parents of any student involved in a music program
automatically are members of the Music Parents Association. There are no costs or membership fees, but many ways in which you can be an active member, often by giving just a few hours of your time during the year. Your participation can make a big difference and will benefit your child and our music programs.

Political:
The Music Departments play a large part in our children's lives.  We feel very strongly that losing this creative outlet for our children could be devastating to their education and damaging to their quality of character.  With your support and our dedication, we will strive to keep these musical programs as a part of our school's curriculum.  The MPA will try to attend every Board of Education meeting open to the public, to assure that we have a conscious awareness of any business being discussed pertaining to the music programs.
